Use IMAP so mail stays synced across Outlook, Webmail, and your phone. POP is not recommended for most businesses because it can remove messages from the server.
Before you start
- Create the mailbox in cPanel and confirm it works in Webmail.
- Keep the full email address and password ready.
- Use the mail server hostname from your welcome email when provided. If unsure, many accounts work with
mail.yourdomain.com.
Recommended ports
- Incoming (IMAP): server
mail.yourdomain.com— port 993 — encryption SSL/TLS - Outgoing (SMTP): server
mail.yourdomain.com— port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS) - Username: the full email address
- Password: the mailbox password
- Enable SMTP authentication (same username/password).
Outlook (new account)
- Open Outlook → add account / File → Add Account.
- Enter the full email address and continue.
- If automatic setup fails, choose manual / IMAP setup.
- Enter the IMAP and SMTP values above.
- Finish and send a test message to another address.
Troubleshooting
- Cannot connect: verify password in Webmail first; wrong passwords fail everywhere.
- Can receive but not send: check SMTP port, authentication, and that your ISP is not blocking outbound SMTP.
- Certificate warning: prefer the hostname that matches your SSL certificate (often the server hostname from the welcome email).
Still stuck? Send support your domain name and whether the error happens on send, receive, or both — we will confirm the exact hostnames for your server.
